LG C5 OLED vs Hisense U7NAU: OLED or Mini-LED for a NZ living room?

The short answer

This comes down to your room, not the spec sheet. OLED switches every pixel off independently, so the LG delivers perfect blacks and the best picture you can buy for dark-room movie watching — plus four HDMI 2.1 ports, more than most people will ever need. Mini-LED gets much brighter, so the Hisense holds up far better in a sunlit New Zealand living room with big windows and afternoon sport on. The Hisense also costs meaningfully less for the same screen size. Buy the LG if your lounge has curtains you actually close; buy the Hisense if it does not, and put the savings toward a soundbar.

Common questions

Is OLED burn-in still a risk?

It is much reduced on modern panels and unlikely with varied viewing. If you leave a static news ticker or a gaming HUD on screen for many hours daily, Mini-LED is the safer choice.

Do I need HDMI 2.1?

Only for a PS5, Xbox Series X or a gaming PC pushing 4K at 120Hz. For streaming and free-to-air, HDMI 2.0 is entirely sufficient.
