About PriceWatch NZ

PriceWatch NZ compares prices on consumer tech across New Zealand retailers. It is run by Amit Sharma, a marketer based in Auckland. It is small, it is deliberately narrow, and it tries to be useful rather than exhaustive.

How we verify prices

Most price comparison sites scrape retailer websites automatically. That gets you enormous coverage and a certain amount of nonsense — stale prices, bundle prices mistaken for unit prices, and listings for products that are not actually in stock.

We do it the slower way. A person opens the retailer's own product page, reads the price, and records it with the date. That date appears on every row of every table on this site. If a price has not been checked in two weeks, we say so on the row. If it has not been checked in two months, we remove it rather than show you something we no longer trust.

The trade-off is honest: we cover far fewer products than the big comparison sites, and we update less often than an automated scraper. What you get in return is that the numbers on the page are numbers a human stood behind.

How the tables are sorted

By price. Only by price. There is no sponsored position, no featured retailer, and no way to buy your way up a table. This rule is written into the code that builds the site, not just into a policy document — the sort function takes a price and nothing else.

Our connection to NCP Group — disclosed

You should know this before you trust a single price on this site. Amit Sharma is involved with NCP Group NZ, the official New Zealand distributor for several brands we track — including Reolink, Soundcore, UGREEN, KONKA, Konic, Amazfit, Lockly, TYMO and Litheli. Products from those brands carry an "Official NZ stock" badge, which tells you they come with genuine local warranty support.

That is a real conflict of interest and pretending otherwise would be worse than having it. Here is how we handle it:

  • NCP-distributed products are never pinned to the top of a price table. They sort by price like everything else, and they frequently lose.
  • Our head-to-head comparisons name the cases where a competitor product is the better buy — read the ones on this site and you will find several.
  • We list the downsides of NCP-distributed products in the same "What's not" box we use for everything else.
  • This disclosure is linked in the footer of every page, not buried here.

If you think we have got a call wrong, say so. Corrections are welcome and get made.

What we cover

Consumer tech and smart home: security cameras, headphones and speakers, chargers and hubs, TVs, smartwatches, smart locks, personal care tools and cordless outdoor gear. We do not cover groceries, appliances, fashion or anything else — the big comparison sites do that better than we could.
